Total Fire Ban changes to better cater for farmers’ needs

A Total Fire Ban (TFB) is declared on days when fires would be likely to threaten lives and property were they to occur. It’s important to know what you can and can’t do on these days.

When a TFB is declared it is prohibited to light any fires in the open air, or to perform any activity that may start a fire.

Recent legislative changes mean farmers can now continue farming activities, including harvesting, during a TFB as long as a Harvest and Vehicle Movement Ban has not been put in place by your Local Government.

Activities such as grinding, welding or operating an oxytorch (Hot works) are still not permitted during a TFB.

For more information visit www.fesa.wa.gov.au or call FESA’s new Total Fire Ban Information Line on 1800 709 355.

For more information on Harvest and Vehicle Movement Bans contact the Northampton Shire Office on 08 9934 1202.
