Recreational and Public Facilities
On the left hand side of this page are links to Recreational and Public Facilities within the Shire of Northampton, or general information regarding recreational facilities are outlined below.
Rural Recreation Facilities
Tennis Courts are located at Binnu and Ajana. The courts are regularly used by their respective tennis clubs. A golf course and clubhouse is also located in Binnu on the corner of the North West Coastal Highway and the Binnu East Road.
Consumption of Alcohol at Recreation Facilities
Any facility that is owned by the Northampton Shire Council requires the permission of the Council to sell or consume liquor on the premises. A form can be obtained, completed and submitted to obtain permission. The permission form from Council is then to be displayed during the period of time alcohol is being consumed. Should a club wish to sell liquor, both permission from the Council and a permit from the Clerk of Courts Geraldton will be required. The process through the Clerk of Courts may take some weeks so it is suggested that the process be commenced as soon as practical.
Grants for Recreation Facilities
Council has adopted a policy that Clubs requesting for a contribution towards recreation facilities will not be considered until the Club has investigated all other sources of funding. The Lotteries Commission and the Department of Sport and Recreation both offer funding for recreation facilities.
The Department of Sport and Recreation offer Community Sport and Recreation Facility Funding (CSRFF). Applications usually open in about September of each year and are submitted to Council for their support and approval. The Department of Sport and Recreation Facility Funding then considers all applications and the outcome is usually known in March of the following year with the funding being provided at the commencement of the next financial year. The grants are funded one third by Department of Sport and Recreation, one-third by the Local Government and one-third by the Club. Further information and applications can be found on the Department of Sport and Recreation web site www.dsr.wa.gov.au
