The Shire of Northampton regulates development in the Shire in accordance with the requirements of the following town planning schemes:

• Town Planning Scheme No. 9 (TPS9) for Kalbarri was published in the Government Gazette on 14 January 2005
• Town Planning Scheme No. 6 (TPS6) for Northampton District was published in the Government Gazette on 9 January 1996
• Town Planning Scheme No. 8 (TPS8) for Horrocks was published in the Government Gazette on 16 April 1992

These town planning schemes guide the development, subdivision and use of land.
Hayley Williams is Council's Principal Planner. Hayley is located in Northampton but is available to meet with people in Kalbarri on Wednesdays via appointment. Kalbarri appointments should be made in advance. All enquiries regarding town planning can be directed to Hayley.

Monica Sullivan is the Trainee Assistant Planning Officer whose position involves a 12 month traineeship. Monica will be engaged in undertaking Certificate IV in Local Government (Planning) in addition to working full-time in the Planning Office. Monica will be trained in a variety of planning tasks and will assume responsibility for day-to-day planning enquiries for both planning and subdivision applications.
